EDP Soccer hosted the USYS National League Regional Showcase New England over Memorial Day weekend at Progin Park in Lancaster, Massachusetts. The event was the last of five National League Regional Showcases during the season, and the third in the East Region this Spring. Nearly 170 teams competed in the Showcase, which featured diverse cross-conference matchups from differing parts of the region.
Teams from over 50 clubs, seven states, and three Canadian provinces were in attendance during the three-day event. In addition to college coaches on site, EDP Soccer partnered with SportsRecruits for the event, enhancing the recruiting experience for all players and coaches.
A look at some of the results from this weekend:
19U Boys
In the Platinum Bracket, Aztec Boys 2005 National and New England Surf State Sky both concluded the weekend with seven points. Aztec started with a 2-2 draw against State Cup Finalist Steel United MA 2004/2005B MA Elite, and followed that up with a 3-1 win over Boston Bolts 2005 West Elite Black and a 2-1 win over Sporting CT 2004 Boys. New England Surf State Sky also drew 2-2 against Steel United MA, and defeated Boston Bolts and Sporting CT.
19U Girls
In the Diamond Bracket, AC Connecticut G05 EDP National and Seacoast United Maine SC 2004/05G both finished at the top of the table with seven points. Five of the six games in the bracket were decided by one goal or less, with the two sides drawing 1-1 on day one. Over the two days, AC Connecticut won, 1-0 and 4-3, while Seacoast secured a pair of 3-2 victories.
17U Boys
In the Platinum Bracket, Juventus Academy Boston IFA U17 Boys went 3-0-0. The Massachusetts State Cup Champions scored three goals in each of their matches. They defeated New England Academy North Division winner Seacoast Bedford 2006B Elite, 3-0, on day one, Aztec Boys 2006 National on day two, and New England Surf NE Surf State 06 Navy, 3-0, on day three. The team will next look toward the USYS National Championships this Summer, where they clinched their place through winning National League P.R.O.
17U Girls
In the Diamond Bracket, Sporting CT 2006 Girls opened the weekend with a 3-2 loss against Canadian side TNB U17G. They bounced back with a 2-0 win over Aztec Grils 2006 and a 2-1 win over NJ Crush FC 2006 Academy, which would see them finish top of the table with six points.
16U Boys
In the Platinum Bracket, Cedar Stars Academy Hudson Valley 2007 Green was top of the table with seven points, one ahead of both Sporting CT and Ginga FC. They defeated Aztec Boys 2007 National, drew 1-1 against Juventus Academy Boston IFA/EDS 07/08 Boys and defeated TNB U16B from Canada, 2-1, to close out the weekend.
16U Girls
In the Diamond Bracket, Ginga FC Girls 2007 Elite continued their run as one of the region’s top teams, having already claimed their spot at the USYS National Championships through National League P.R.O. They looked to be firing on all cylinders as they head into final preparations. Keeping three clean sheets over the weekend, it started with back-to-back 2-0 wins, and closed out with a dominant 5-0 win.
15U Boys
In the Platinum Bracket, Glenshields Juventus FC 2008 Boys from Canada and Juventus Academy Boston IFA U15 Boys both finished a perfect 3-0-0. Glenshields had a terrific weekend on both sides of the ball, scoring three or more goals in each game, and keeping a clean sheet in all three matches. Juventus Academy Boston IFA kept a clean sheet in two of its three matches.
15U Girls
In the Diamond Bracket, Ole Impact FC National G2008 started the weekend with a stunning victory over FC Somers Lady Hammers. The 5-0 win over a perennial national powerhouse set them up to go on and win the bracket. A 3-1 win over AC Connecticut G08 EDP National on the final day would see them sit above both FC Somers and Glenshields Juventus FC 2008G in the final standings.
