Maryland Futsal State Cup 2023 Tournament Recap



EDP Soccer hosted the Maryland Futsal State Cup over the past two weekends at CCBC Catonsville, with teams vying for a spot at the US Futsal Northeast Region Championship on February 17-20, 2023 in Atlantic City, NJ. The winners of the region qualify for the US Futsal National Championship from July 14-16, 2023 in Las Vegas, NV. The event included over 90 teams from over 25 clubs. Clubs in attendance included Achilles Futsal, Academia de Glen Burnie Soccer Club, Arlington SA, Baltimore Crew, Baltimore Union SC, Barcelona USA MD, Bethesda SC Coppermine SC, DC XI Project, Denison Cabral Futsal Academy, Elite Football Club, FC Frederick, FC Millennium International, FC USA, Freedom SC, Fuentes SA, Joga FC, Liverpool FC IA MD, Magic Futsal, Maryland Rush, Mount Washington SC, Pasadena SC, Pipeline SC, PPA, SAC, Sporting Maryland United FC, Stars Futsal and Washington Capital United.

A look at some of the results from the weekend:

Liverpool FCIA Central MD 2004 Girls opened the weekend with a 3-3 draw against Mount Washington, and then rattled off four consecutive wins, including a 4-3 win to claim the championship.


Barcelona USA Western 06 scored 25 goals throughout the event, going 5-0-1 and winning five straight matches to finish in first place.


Denison Cabral Futsal Academy DCFA 08 Blue and Yellow both finished 5-1-0, as both teams finished at the top of the table. Each team finished with an impressive +18 goal differential and scored 20+ goals.


Achilles Futsal finished in first place, beating out Real Boys Academy 07 on the head-to-head tie-breaker. Both teams finished 5-1-0 and scored 28 goals, but it was Achilles’ 3-1 win when the two teams faced off that was the difference.


SAC Boys 2008 - Premier White finished second during the group stage behind FC Frederick Futsal 08, with FC Frederick winning the group stage match 2-1. In the final, SAC was able to flip the result, and left as champions with a 2-1 win.


Sporting Maryland United ECNL Girls was dominant throughout the event, keeping five clean sheets in their six games, including in the final when they defeated Baltimore Union SC Elite 09G.


Denison Cabral Futsal Academy DCFA Inter finished in first place in the group stage, and defeated Magic Futsal 5-4 in back-to-back matches to win both the group stage and the championship match with a thrilling overtime goal as the clock expired.


PPA Barca 2010 Boys went unbeaten, winning all five of their matches. They opened up the event with a 6-0 win, followed by wins of 2-1, 4-0, 3-0, and a 3-1 win in the championship match.


Arlington 2011 Girls Team 1 Futsal and ASA Azzurri both went 3-0-2 in the group stages, with both teams advancing out of their groups on a tie-breaker. In the final, the teams had another extremely close match, with Arlington winning 2-1.


PPA Chelsea 2011 Boys and Barcelona USA Western 11 tied 1-1 in their opening match, and found each other matched up again in the final, where PPA would come away with a 3-1 victory.


Bethesda Academy 1 2012 was an impressive 5-0-0 in the group stage, scoring more than five goals in four out of the six matches. Their high-power attack led them to a win over Achilles Futsal 2012 in the final.


Bethesda ECNL 1 2012 defeated Bethesda ECNL 2 2012 in the final, after the two teams topped the group stage, losing just one match between the two teams.


Coppermine SC Boys 2013 Premier I was one of the highest scoring teams of the competition, scoring 32 goals in their six games. They finished a perfect 6-0-0, keeping four clean sheets and allowing just two goals against.


Bethesda E 1 2013 went 3-0-0 in the group stages with wins of 4-2, 3-1, and 2-1. After a 4-1 semi-final win, they defeated PPA Spirit 2013 Girls 1-0 in the final.


SAC Boys 2014 - Premier Blue won first place, defeating Baltimore Celtic 2014 Black 2-0 in the final. SAC was unbeaten winning five of their six matches, their lone tie coming against the same Baltimore Celtic team 1-1 in the group stage.


Bethesda E 1 2014 defeated Sporting Maryland United 2014 Girls in the final, rallying to win the event after dropping their first two matches by 1-0 scores. After the back-to-back 1-0 losses, they drew 1-1 before winning 2-1 and then 5-1 in the final.
