EDP Soccer's Promising Young Coaches — 30 Under 30


EDP Soccer has announced its list of 30 Promising Young Coaches for 2023. Each of the coaches are under the age of 30, and represent clubs that compete in EDP Soccer Leagues. Nominations for the list are made by club directors, and each coach selected is recognized for their hard work, dedication and ability to develop players and teams.

“EDP Soccer is excited to once again honor some of the top young coaches who continue to help grow the game we love,” said Alan Shilling, President of EDP Soccer. “Each year we continue to see fantastic candidates, and it's a true testament to the development of young coaches at so many of the EDP Member Clubs. We look forward to watching each of these coaches continue to grow as both coaches and people, and are excited to have them as part of the EDP Family.”

John Adair - Buckingham United

29 Years Old

John is the Technical Director for Buckingham United and also coaches the 2007 Boys Premier and 2013 Boys Arsenal at the club. In addition to his role at the club, he is a collegiate assistant coach at Georgian Court. Described as passionate, driven and detail-oriented, John currently holds his USSF ‘C’ License and is currently in the ‘B’ License course.

 

Maddie Anderson - PA Dominion

20 Years Old

Maddie works with the ’08 and ’09 Girls teams at PA Dominion, and has quickly become a valuable asset to the players. Currently a junior at Division 1 program St Joe’s, she also played at the highest levels during her youth career, and is a role model the players aspire to be like. Since joining the coaching staff, she has helped the teams to win the Mid Atlantic Premier II Division, and deliver a strong performance at National League P.R.O. with the team currently in first place.

 

Alec Anselmo - West-Mont United SA

25 Years Old

Alec began coaching after an impressive playing career, where he played Division 1 college soccer for national powerhouse Pittsburgh and finished at Duquesne. With West-Mont United, he coaches the 2009B Premier and West-Mont United 2006B Premier Blue. He has a true commitment to player development and has innovative training and team-building session design.

 

Brandon Basilio - Soccer Association of Columbia

24 Years Old

Brandon is one of the quickest up-and-coming coaches in Maryland, with tons of success in just a few short years on the sideline. With SAC, he coaches the Boys 2011 Premier White, Girls 2013 United Blue and Girls 2013 White. In addition, he is part of the Maryland ODP Staff, Centennial HS Coach, and also is on the MLS NEXT staff for Baltimore Armour. He is high-energy, with a willingness to absorb new or critical information, and currently holds a USSF ‘C’ License.

 

Adam Beaty - Sporting CT

24 Years Old

Adam joined Sporting CT coaching staff after a successful college career playing at Mount Ida College. He rejoined the club he played for during his youth career, and is currently coaching the 2014 Girls. He is also coaching at Xavier HS. Currently working on his ‘D’ License, he has excellent communication skills, leadership qualities, and is highly-motivated.

 

Mike Bello - STA

29 Years Old

Mike coaches the STA 2012, 2009, and 2008 Girls, and is a key member of the coaching staff at one of the nation’s top clubs. Mike is a tremendous technical trainer, with his teams playing a fun brand of soccer. Mike has also worked with the Rutgers Newark Women’s program, and is still a top player. He recently played for FC Motown, NJ Alliance FC and New Amsterdam FC.

 

James Brostowski - South Shore Futbol Club

28 Years Old

James played college soccer for Stony Brook and Queens College. He is now the Goalkeeper Coach for Shore Futbol Club, coaches the Red B2010 and Galaxy B2011, and is assistant coach on the highly-successful Bulldogs United B2004. During his coaching career he has won the 2022 ENY State Cup and 2022 USYS Eastern Regional Championships. James is a very detail-oriented coach who delivers clear and concise information and coaching points to his players. He brings a high-level of energy and excitement to each one of his GK sessions, which keep young goalies engaged and excited to continue to come back to learn more about the position.

 

Kelsey Burr - Vale SC

22 Years Old

Kelsey was a standout at Southern Connecticut State University where she was NEWISA All-New England Team multiple times, and NE-10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman. In 2022, she was named Young Coach of the Year by CJSA. Currently coaching the 2007 Girls, she is a true role model to the players, and has also worked in the TOP Soccer Program.

 

Breeana Cassidy - Wall SC

24 Years Old

Breeana was a member of the women’s soccer teams at both Brookdale CC and Bloomfield College, and is the head coach for Ocean County College (OCC) and coaches the Wall Elite Crew U10 Girls. She was Wall SC Elite Coach of the Year in 2022, Community College Region 19 Coach of Year, and District East A Coach of Year as she led OCC to the Region 19 & District East A Championships.

 

Cameron Christine - WUSC

23 Years Old

Cameron is currently coaching at WUSC with the 2015, 2014, 2011, and 2010 teams. He is also an assistant coach at Camden County College and USL 2 Ocean City Nor’easters. He began coaching with Valencia SA and then Liverpool FCIA NJ, where he led teams at both clubs to several EDP Soccer League championships. With WUSC, he led the 2004 team to their first EDP League first place finish, and to the NJYS Presidents Cup semi-final. He holds his USSF ‘C’ License; is extremely knowledgeable, and an excellent tactician.

 

Bryan Darby - SYC

28 Years Old

Bryan played Division 1 soccer for Radford University, and now coaches the SYC 2009 Boys NL squad. The team is currently ranked #1 in Virginia, are in the USYS South Atlantic Premier I Division, and won their EDP League Division last Fall. He also led the team to the EDP Summer Classic championship in June 2022. Ryan holds a ‘D’ License, and is a mentor to the players both on and off the field.

 

Angel Fuentes - Morris Elite

25 Years Old

Angel coaches the Morris Elite 2013 Pre USL and 2009 Pre USL, and has been a great addition to the staff at the club. He won a USYS National League Showcase in 2022, and the EDP Memorial Day Classic in May 2022. In addition to coaching with the club, he also works with the NJ ODP Program. Angel holds his ‘D’ License.


 

Mike Gould - Huntingdon Valley AA

25 Years Old

Mike is one of the most promising young coaches in Pennsylvania. He was recently the Goalkeeper coach at Temple University, and is now an Assistant at Chestnut Hill. With HVAA, he coaches the 2007G, 2010B, and 2012B teams in the EDP Soccer League, and has each team ranked in the top 25 of the state. Mike is also the Director of Operations for the club and holds his ‘D’ License.

 

Erika Joab - Coppermine SC

28 Years Old

Erika was a star youth player in NJ before going on to play Division 1 college soccer at the University of Maryland. Following her playing career, Erika began coaching and now works with the 2009 Girls at Coppermine SC. Her ability to teach the fundamentals has helped build the players’ confidence, and her teams continuously improve under her tutelage.

 

Tyler Jorge - Trumbull United

26 Years Old

Tyler is going on his fifth year of coaching with Trumbull United, and is the head coach of the 2007 and 2006 Girls. A native of Trumbull who grew up with the club, he also coaches at St. Joseph High School. He won the CJSA Special Recognition Award in 2023, and won the CT Cup Championship in 2021 with the 2011 Boys. A great communicator and teacher of the game, Tyler holds his ‘D’ License.

 

Paula Jurewicz - Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals

29 Years Old

Paula has worked with several of the top clubs in southeast Pennsylvania; has been a collegiate Assistant Coach at Temple University, and Head Coach at Gwynedd Mercy University. During her playing career at Temple, she started 69 games, and was a key player for all four years. Paula works with the Zone 1 Girls at Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals, helping the club become one of the top girls programs in the region. As the coach of the 2011 and 2012 Girls last Fall, she led the 2011 Girls to the final of the prestigious EDP Cup Fall.

 

Carlos Lourenco - Foundation Soccer Club

27 Years Old

Carlos is a Technical Director for Foundation SC, and is also an assistant coach at Albertus Magnus College. Additionally, he is head coach for the club’s 2009 and 2006 Boys. He is very dedicated to player development and developing the sport in the club’s surrounding areas through outreach programs. Carlos was a collegiate player at Post University, and holds his ‘D’ License.

 

Kevin MacFarland - FC Delco

27 Years Old

Kevin played collegiately at Alvernia University, and coaches FC Delco 2013 Boys Conshy Black and FC Delco 2011 Boys Conshy Black. The 2013 Boys were EDP Fall League champions, and have won several tournaments. He is also an assistant coach at Bryn Athyn College, and works in special education as a teacher within the School District of Philadelphia. Kevin holds his ‘D’ License.

 

Cristian Martinez - TSF Academy

24 Years Old

Cristian was part of the U17 United States Men's National Team Residency Program and played for the New York Red Bulls Academy. At TSF, he is a key asset to one of New Jersey’s top club’s Zone 1 program. He oversees the development of the club’s younger players, and consistently moves players on from the junior academy program into the club’s Zone 1 teams. He is extremely dedicated to developing and growing his players' experiences both on and off the field, and is currently the head coach of the 2013 Blue EDP and 2007 EDP Boys teams. Cristian holds his USSF ‘D’ License.

 

Malik Mathes - Cedar Stars Academy North

23 Years Old

Malik played college soccer at Rutgers Newark, and now coaches the 2014 Newark Boys Pre-Academy 2, 2010 North Boys EDP and 2009 North Boys EDP for Cedar Stars North. Drawing on his experience as a top youth player in the area, he is able to relate to the athletes and help them try and reach their potential. He is very hard-working and dedicated, and always looking to improve under the guidance of the club's directors.

 

Cassidy McErlain - SJEB FC

23 Years Old

Cassidy recently joined SJEB FC, one of the nation’s top girl’s clubs after playing at Rowan University and Wilmington University. Cassidy works with the 2012 Black, 2014 Red/Black, and FC 2015 Red/Black Girls Teams. Cassidy has won a NJ State Presidents Cup championship. She is adored by the players on all of her teams, and has an extremely bright future as a coach.

 

Sophie McKnight - PA Rush

26 Years Old

Sophie played at Elizabethtown College, and has coached at Montgomery County Community College and is now an assistant coach for Haverford College. She has worked with PA Rush for the past three years, and is coaching the 2010 Rush, and 2012 Rush. She is also the club's College Advisory Program Director. Sophie holds a Masters in Sport Management with a concentration in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration.

 

Jeremy McManus - Steel United NJ

24 Years Old

Jeremy is the Assistant Regional Product Director for Steel Sports and coaches the 2012, 2008, and 2006 Boys teams. He also coaches the club’s goalkeepers and is the assistant coach at Immaculata High School. He recently obtained an MSC in Sports Coaching and Performance with Distinction from the University of South Wales where he also completed his UEFA B License. Jeremy played semi-professional football for RIASA in the Lancashire West League and has an English FA Level 2 coaching license and an FA Level 1 in Coaching Goalkeepers.

 

Noelle Picone - PSA

29 Years Old

Noelle is a former Division 1 player with FDU where she won two NEC Championships. She is currently an Assistant Coach at Division 1 Seton Hall in the Big East Conference. Previously she was an Assistant Coach with FDU and Division 3 national powerhouse TCNJ. Now in her seventh year of coaching Women's collegiate soccer, she also coaches PSA Princeton '14 Girls, PSA Princeton '08 Girls, PSA Princeton '07 Girls, and is the PSA Princeton Girl's Director of Coaching. Noelle holds her USSF ‘C’ License.

 

Michael Portillo - FC Copa Academy

24 Years Old

Michael joined FC Copa Academy Flemington staff after a decorated playing career. He was invited to train with FC Utrecht Academy in Holland Academy’s U15s. Michael was invited to compete in The Viareggio Cup, one of the world's top U19 tournaments. After playing in college, Michael spent the preseason with CD Real Sociedad from Honduras before returning home to begin coaching. He coaches the club’s 2014 Boys, 2013 Girls, 2010 Boys and 2005 Boys teams, and holds his ‘D’ License.

 

Kiley Richardson - World Class FC / SCP

25 Years Old

Kiley played college soccer at Hartwick College, where she was a model student-athlete, playing in over 70 games and earning Empire 8 Fall 2016 President's List five times for top academic performance. Kiley coaches the club’s 2014 Boys, 2013 Girls and 2012/13 Boys teams, and her patience, communication skills, and ability to teach the young players is second to none.

 

Brianna Robinson - East Brunswick SC

26 Years Old

Brianna was a top player at Division 1 Marist College, and now works with East Brunswick SC. She coaches the 2014 Boys Slammers and the 2008 Boys Arsenal. The 2014 Boys played in EDP Futures for the first time in the Fall, and competed at a very high level. She continues to get the players to play to the best of their ability, and makes training sessions and games a truly enjoyable experience for the players. Brianna holds her ‘D’ License.

 

Jason Rocha - Penn Alliance Select

25 Years Old

Jason played for Jefferson College and was a two-time All-CACC first team, a D2CCA All-East Region second team selection and United Soccer Coaches All-East Region third team. Jason is now an assistant coach at Jefferson College, and coaches the 2005 Girls and 2008 Boys at Penn Alliance Select. With the club teams, he has won several league and tournament championships, and was a finalist at the EDP Summer Showcase. Jason holds his ‘D’ License, and is always striving to improve as a coach.

 

Alex Roche - The Football Academy NJ

21 Years Old

Alex is a coach with The Football Academy NJ 2013 and 2011 Boys teams, and part of the staff that is creating one of the top programs in the state. The club won the 12U Boys, 13U Boys, and 11U Girls NJ State Cup in the Fall. As a young coach, Alex is showing tremendous potential. He has great attention to detail to get the best from each player and truly puts players first.

 

Lucas Sousa - Ginga FC

29 Years Old

Lucas is the CJSA Young Coach of the Year 2023, and coaches the 2014 and 2007 Boys at Ginga FC. A devoted and motivating coach, he has excelled in coaching Futsal, consistently leading the club’s futsal teams to the Regional Championships. Lucas also works with the Pomperaug Soccer Club.
