EDP Memorial Day Classic 2023 Tournament Recap



This past weekend, EDP Soccer hosted its EDP Memorial Day Classic for 8U-19U Boys and Girls teams. Games were held at Green Branch Park, Friendship Fields and Capelli Sports Complex.

The EDP Memorial Day Classic is the fourth tournament in EDP Soccer’s very popular Classic Series of events, which concludes with the EDP Summer Classic in a few weeks. This year's Memorial Day Classic featured over 250 teams from around the Northeast, including some of the most prominent clubs in the region. The event was a great way for teams to get the opportunity to play new opponents at their same competitive level, creating exciting games all weekend long.
 

A look at some of the bracket results from the weekend:



In the 16U Boys Bundesliga Bracket, Old Line FC Boys 07 Black from Maryland reached the final over Jersey Shore BOCA Jr FC 07 boys on goal differential, with the two sides drawing 2-2 in the opening match. They faced TSF Academy 2007 Boys N.E.A.L in the final, who was 3-0-0, and finished ahead of FC Stars East 2007 Boys Blue from Massachusetts and Barca Academy Pro NY B2007 Red. In the final, Old Line FC kept their first clean sheet of the weekend, keeping a TSF team who had scored over 10 goals in the group stage off the board to claim the championship.


In the 11U Boys World Cup Bracket, Kearny Thistle United FC B2012 Celtic started off with a big win over TSF Academy 2012 Boys Blue. They followed up with a 2-1 win over Manhattan SC Racing 2012 Blue, and then reached the final by defeating French Football Federation Academy 2012 Mbappe 5-3. In the final, they closed out the event with their fourth win, edging out Asphalt Green B2012 Green in a very close matchup.



In the 9U Boys Gold Cup Bracket, A.S. Junior Elite 2014 was led by their dominant attack, going 3-0-0 in the group stage, and then defeating East Brunswick EBSC 2014 Premier Boys Slammers in the final on Sunday.


In the 16U Girls She Believes Bracket, Virginia Revolution SC VRSC 07G Black and Next Level Soccer Academy 2007 Girls Elite met in the final with both teams going 2-0-1 in the group stage. NLSA reached the final by defeating Asphalt Green G2007 3-1 on Sunday morning, and kept that momentum going to narrowly defeat Virginia Revolution in the final.


In the 11U Girls Kirin Challenge Bracket, Commack Crossfire G12 won the bracket with a record of 3-1-0. They finished Saturday with a win and loss, defeating Toms River FC 4-1 but then dropping a close match 3-2 to FC Copa Academy. On Sunday, they returned firing on all cylinders, defeating Liverpool FCNJ Central and South Shore FC to win first place.


In the 10U Girls Canada Bracket, Yardley Makefield Soccer 2013 Girls Blue won the bracket with a record of 3-1-0, narrowly beating out Kearny Thistle United FC G2013 Pride, who was the lone team to stay unbeaten. Despite Kearny defeating YMS 6-4 in one of the most exciting matches of the weekend, they ended with 2 draws and ended on 8 points. Needing a win in their last game, YMS went on to defeat Wall Elite Crew 5-2 to claim first place.
