EDP Soccer has announced the Best XI from last weekend’s EDP Cup Spring Showcase 2023. The selections were made based on the performance of the players during the tournament. Congratulations to the following players who were selected.
The Boys Best XI from the EDP Cup Spring Showcase 2023 are:
#18 Mark Surretsky - Cedar Stars Academy North Elite 64 2005B
Mark is a 2006 junior left back. He played up on the 04 team and was instrumental in helping to keep three shutouts in our three games, contributing an assist in the final game.
#10 Nacho Alvarez - Steel United NJ 2004B NL
Nacho plays as an attacking central midfielder and this weekend he had a goal and four assists. Above all, his work rate was excellent, and even from an attacking position his effort to shut down defensively and win the ball high up the field led to numerous scoring chances. His impact across the field was tremendous.
#6 Matt Conger - PDA Hibernian Kane 2004/2005
Matt's technical application and vision proved to be the difference on the weekend. He converted and created several goal scoring opportunities for PDA Hibernian Kane.
#7 Gavin Hill - Juventus Academy Boston IFA U17 Boys
Gavin played across the forward line throughout the weekend. He was a key piece of the defensive press and created many opportunities. He scored two big goals in the third game of the weekend, including the important equalizing goal that created the momentum for the team to go and win the game 5-2. He was a huge part of the attacking play that led to the team scoring 14 goals across the three games.
#9 Tyler Jastrab - Seacoast Bedford 2006B Elite
Tyler is one of our most improved and developed players in this group. Tyler is very effective as a full back going forward creating many opportunities and especially this weekend where he was one of our top goal-scorers. He can also play in central midfield and is very adaptable in many areas. His creativity on the ball and dynamics off the ball defensively is second to none.
#3 Drew Heil - WUSC 06
Drew’s creativity and vision was the catalyst of the WUSC attack. Drew controlled the middle of the field creating numerous scoring opportunities. He finished the tournament with three goals and six assists in three games helping his team go 3-0-0.
#2 Anthony Carabisi - SJEB FC 07B Academy Red
Anthony was instrumental in leading SJEB FC 07 Boys Academy to an undefeated weekend in the platinum division of the EDP Spring Showcase. Anthony contributed either a goal or an assist in each game finishing the weekend with two goals and three assists, helping lead a prolific offense that tallied 12 goals in three matches.
#6 Gabe Faust - WUSC 06
Gabe was an unstoppable force in the attack scoring seven goals and assisting on two others to help lead WUSC to three wins in three games. Gabe’s size and speed caused teams to sit in and not press high, giving WUSC time to move the ball at will.
#74 Avery Morse - FC Dutchmen Boys 2007 Riverhounds
Avery scored two goals and had two assists during the EDP Spring Showcase weekend. It was Avery's movement off the ball and relentless defensive pressure that created opportunities for his teammates to capitalize on. He showed good composure under pressure and his hard work inspired his teammates to also work just as hard. He was a leader through his actions on the field.
#25 John Watts - St. Mary's Soccer SMS 2008 Strikers Red Premier
John earned two clean sheets and conceded only one goal in three matches while making multiple saves.
#13 Jasper Moorhead - Brooklyn United Academy B2008 National
Jasper led the line for a successful 2008 Brooklyn United Academy National team, scoring six goals and also adding in three assists over the three games. His hold-up play also stood out, bringing the midfield into the attack. He made a huge impact over the course of the tournament!
