EDP Cup Spring 2023 Tournament Recap

One of the top-ranked events in the nation by GotSoccer, the EDP Cup Spring was once again a success with over 240 9U-14U Boys and Girls teams from more than 100 different clubs competing. Each of the 445 games took place at Tuckahoe Turf Farms, one of the premier venues in the country. The brackets featured best vs best competition, with teams from the nation’s top leagues taking part. Teams from USYS National League Conferences, MLS Next, ECNL, Girls Academy League, National Academy League, and EDP League were all in action.

The EDP Cup Spring was one of three events managed by EDP Soccer over Memorial Day Weekend, with the USYS National League Regional Showcase New England and EDP Memorial Day Classic also taking place.

Some of the results from the weekend:

14U Boys

In the Platinum Bracket, World Class FC 2009 ECNL was driven by their high powered attack all weekend long. Despite a 1-0 set back to Beachside U14 MLS NEXT 2009 in their final group game, their place in the championship match was already set, as they advanced by a head-to-head tiebreaker over Quaker Elite Soccer Club Magicians. Their opponent in the final was Manhattan SC Atletico ECNL B09, and it was a dominating performance by World Class FC from start to finish, as they headed back to NY as champions.

14U Girls

Jersey Shore Boca O’Hara continued their incredible run of EDP Cup success, winning their fourth consecutive Cup. Continuing to play giant killer, they reached the final defeating Sporting Delaware 09 GA in penalty kicks after the two ended group play with identical goals for, goals against and goal differential. They were joined in the final by Wall Elite Spirit, which defeated Cedar Stars Academy-Bergen 09G GA, Brooklyn United Academy G2009 National, and Pittsgrove Soccer Club PSC Milan '09. In the final, Jersey Shore Boca O’Hara would defeat Wall Elite Spirit 3-1 to claim the Cup.

13U Boys

In the Platinum Bracket, all 14 games were decided by two goals or less, with seven of the eight teams having a chance to reach the final as they headed into their last group games. Ultimately, it would be Beachside U13 MLS NEXT 2010 against Connecticut FC ECNL B10 in the final. Beachside started with a 2-2 draw against Futboltech 2010 - Ajax, and then defeated World Class FC WCFC 2010 ECNL Boys and Manhattan SC Chelsea ECNL B10. CFC won all three group stage games: 2-1 over Barca Academy Pro NY B2010 PRO, 2-0 over Yardley Makefield Soccer 2010 Boys Premier United, and 2-1 over East York SC Atletico 2010. In the final, CFC made it four out of four, as they edged Beachside for the championship.

13U Girls

In the Diamond Bracket, it was extremely close at the top of the table, with four out of the six teams finishing with six or seven points. The final was between Cedar Stars Academy - Bergen 10G GA and Western United Pioneers FC 2010 Girls Elite from the USYS National League New England Conference. Western United Pioneers, who reached the final by defeating Hamilton Elite FC 2010 Sand Sharks NL EDP 3-2, was able to keep a clean sheet against Girls Academy League side Cedar Stars Academy - Bergen 10G GA, and bring the EDP Cup back to Massachusetts.

12U Boys

In the Platinum Bracket, PSA Princeton '11 came into day two with a 1-1-0 record, losing a tough match against Scrosoppi FC Boys 2011 - Black from Canada. With Europa Lions FC 2011B Blue having the same record, it was PSA who won the final group game between the two sides 4-2 to reach the final. In the final, they took on Takoma Park Dreamers River 2011, who was the top side in the group stages, where they went 3-0-0 with wins of 2-1, 4-3, and 4-0. In a back and forth high-scoring affair, PSA Princeton would be crowned as champions.

12U Girls

In the Diamond Bracket, Lehigh Valley United 2011 Girls Black and NJ Premier G2011 drew their opening match 1-1, before both sides would win their next three games. Both teams' attacks were excellent all weekend, but the LVU backline set the team apart. Three straight clean sheets after the 1-1 draw helped them finish in first place, beating out NJ Premier on both the goal differential and goals against tie-breakers.

11U Boys

In the Platinum Bracket, Canada’s DCFC Academy 2012 Boys and Real Jersey FC 2012 Pre-MLS were the two top teams all weekend long, both going through group play 3-0-0. Real Jersey FC's high-scoring attack met its match in the final, as DCFC once again would only allow one goal, and was able to win the match and take the EDP Cup trophy back to Canada.

11U Girls

In the Diamond Bracket, Game Awareness Elite opened with a 2-2 draw against Wall Elite Porto. They then found their stride in a 5-1 win over Cedar Stars Academy North Bergen to close out day one. On day two, they had back-to-back clean sheets, and defeated NYCFC Girls 2012 4-0 in the championship game.

10U Boys

In the Gold Bracket, Cedar Stars Academy North Bergen 2013 Boys Pre-Academy drew their final group against third place Hoboken City FC 2013 Boys Red EDP Futures, which saw them stay top of the table and reach the final, where they would play PSA Monmouth '13 Boys Orange, whose only set back was to Hoboken. The final was a high-scoring thriller which saw 12 total goals, and saw CSA Bergen finish as champions with a 7-5 victory.

10U Girls

In the Ruby Bracket, NYCFC Girls 2013 closed out day one with a tight 4-3 win over NJ Premier G2013, setting themselves up for a spot in Sunday's final. After giving up five goals in their two day-one wins, they recorded back-to-back clean sheets on Sunday, including a 1-0 win over Western United Pioneers FC 2013 Girls Elite Red in the final.

9U Boys

In the Gold Bracket, Cedar Stars Academy North Bergen 2014 Boys Pre-Academy went 3-0-0, starting the weekend with a solid 2-0 win over Asphalt Green B2014 Green. Western United Pioneers FC 2014 Boys Elite Red made the final going 2-1-0, defeating Medford SC 5-2, NJ Premier FC 8-4 and losing a close match 3-2 to Park Slope United. In the final, Cedar Stars wrapped up their fourth win in as many games, with a 5-3 victory.
