EDP Florida Playoff Recap

This past weekend, EDP Soccer hosted its inaugural playoff for the EDP Soccer Florida Competitive Leagues. Thirty-six teams enjoyed two perfect days of weather at Halpatiokee Regional Park, in Stuart, Florida, allowing them to showcase their abilities against some of the top clubs and teams in the state. The playoffs featured the top 3 teams from the Fall 2020 season in the Central Florida Region and South Florida Region in the 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U Boys divisions. In addition to the 11U-14U teams, EDP Soccer hosted six 9U and six 10U boys teams from the top clubs in the state to participate in a festival alongside the playoffs.

“This past weekend EDP Florida Competitive League was able to deliver on its promise to connect Central and South Florida teams with the League Playoffs. The competition on the field was of high quality and it showed the need for more of these cross-over opportunities. The individual ability levels of the players was excellent, partnered with some top level game officials made this a fantastic weekend. The playoffs were a big success and allowed teams to match up against top ranked teams in the state.” — Simon Collins, EDP Technical Director

A Look At The Weekend’s Playoff Results:

11U Boys
  • Academia Metodo Coira 2010 Elite capped off their perfect Fall Season with a fantastic performance. Their high powered attack was on full display in the group stage as they won all 3 games, allowing just one goal. In the final, they took on Barca Academy Pro Miami 2010 De Jong, who recently won the FYSA Futures Cup. In a match between two of Florida’s best 2010 teams, the game finished 2-2 in regulation, and Academia Metodo Coira 2010 Elite was able to come away with the victory in penalty kicks. Both teams will face off again during the spring season, with the match up truly exemplifying the league's missions of a good game every week with limited travel.

12U Boys
  • Barca Academy PRO Miami 2009 Pique entered the playoff with a 7-0-0 record, and would continue their winning ways as they dominated in the group stage winning all 3 games. In the final, they would match up against Academia Metodo Coira 2009 Elite, who also went unbeaten in the group stage, and would look to avenge their only defeat of the league season, which came against this same Barca Academy Pro Miami squad. Barca Academy Pro once again proved to be the better side on the day and were crowned champions with a 2-0 victory.

13U Boys
  • The final saw the top two teams from the South Florida region battle it out. Top seeded Doral Elite 2008 would once again get the better of second seeded Ives Estate Thunder Premier Black, winning the final 4-1 and finishing off a tremendous season which saw them drop only 2 points.

14U Boys
  • Doral Elite 2007 and Juventus Thuram both reached the final after winning all three of their group stage games. Doral Elite, the highest scoring teams in the Fall Season, used their offensive firepower to defeat Juventus by the scoreline of 3-0.
