On May 28-29, EDP Soccer hosted the EDP Cup Spring, annually ranked one of the top events in the nation by GotSoccer. All games took place at Tuckahoe Turf Farms, one of the premier venues in the country. More than 60 clubs from all over the East Region and Canada were in attendance, with teams from MLS NEXT, Girls Academy, USYS National League Conferences, EDP, ECNL and more. There were 1,460 goals scored throughout the 336 games played over the weekend.
A look at some of the bracket results from the weekend:
In the 14U Boys Platinum Bracket, Beachside SC MLS Next 2008 went 3-0-0 in Group B to reach the final, including a 1-0 win over NJYS State Cup Champions Ironbound SC 2008 United in their second match which was the deciding game in the group. In Group A, Barca Academy PRO NY won 3-2 over World Class ECNL and 4-3 PSA Monmouth 08 to enter the final day 2-0, and defeated Glen Shields from Canada on Sunday to reach the final. In a back-and-forth final, Beachside SC held on to a 2-1 lead late as Barca Academy had several set pieces in the dying moments but were unable to even the score and Beachside was crowned champions. In the 12U Boys Platinum Bracket, NYCFC U12 went 3-0-0 in Group A to reach the final, opening their weekend with a 4-1 win over TSF Academy, followed by a 3-2 win over top ranked East Coast FC Boca Juniors. On Sunday, they defeated Atletico Canadians FC 3-1 to reach the final where they would take on Barca Academy Pro NY B2010 PRO. Barca Academy won Group B after starting the weekend with a 1-1 draw Futboltech 2010 Ajax, and then defeating Manhattan SC Chelsea, and then winning an extremely close 4-3 match vs PA Rush 2010 Rush to top Futboltech in the Group. Barca Academy used their momentum from that 4-3 win in the final against NYCFC, as the attack continued to show their goal-scoring ability as they won the match 3-1 to win the championship. In the 13U Girls Diamond Bracket, Jersey Shore Boca Jr FC O'Hara once again played their best soccer of the season at the EDP Cup. Just as they did in the Fall, they reached the final, this time going 3-0-0 in group play with wins over East Meadow SC, NJ Premier FC and Match Fit Academy Shore. In the final, they matched up with SJEB FC 09 GA, who they drew 2-2 in EDP Cup Fall. This weekend Jersey Shore Boca was able to come out on top in the match, and won their second consecutive EDP Cup Championship. In the 12U Girls Diamond Bracket, Cedar Stars Monmouth 2010G Green went 2-0-1 to finish with seven points in group play as WUSC 2010 finished with six points to edge out Match Fit Academy Shore to reach the final. In the final, Cedar Stars Monmouth was clicking on all cylinders and were crowned champions.
