EDP CT Championship League Season Review Spring 2022

By Evan Unger, 05/12/22, 12:30PM EDT

This Spring, 340 teams from 38 clubs participated in EDP CT Championship League at 11U-19U, while an additional 70 teams competed in the 8U-10U Futures Divisions. The CT Championship is designed for premier clubs in Connecticut offering a good game every week with limited travel. In cooperation with Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA), the league creates a platform for teams to compete with like minded clubs, and the ability to earn their way from the state level league up to the USYS National League Conferences.

Clubs this spring include: A.C. Connecticut, Ajax Premier, Beachside of CT SC, Bridgeport Premier FC, Central Connecticut Soccer Alliance, CFC, CFC North, CFC Valley, Chelsea Piers Shoreline SC, Cheshire SC, CT Rush, Fairfield United SA, Foundation SC West, FSA FC, FSC North, Ginga FC, Green Warriors Soccer, Hartford SC, Inter Connecticut FC, JCFC Academy, Mendonca Soccer School, Northeast United Premier Soccer, Oakwood SC, OGRCC Greenwich United, Ole Impact FC, PSC Dynamo CT, Revolution United FC, Shelton FC, Shoreline United Soccer Club, Simmons SC, South Central Premier, Southeast SC, Southington SC, Sporting CT, Stamford FC, Trumbull United SC, Vale SC, Yankee United FC.

“Despite the various challenges still offered up by COVID and the referee shortage, it has been another successful season in the EDP CT Futures and Championship Leagues. The ongoing collaborative efforts of the clubs, CJSA, the CSRP and EDP Soccer has fostered an overall positive off-field culture which inevitably contributes to the on-field experience. We are proud to offer this competitive pyramid in Connecticut which affords the states top teams the opportunity to play within the USYS National League. With many CT based clubs in position to once again represent the state at the USYS Eastern Regional Championships, we look forward to seeing how they stack up against other top sides in the region.”
— John Tait, EDP Soccer Regional Manager

With close to 1350 games scheduled for the Spring Season, currently over 60% of the games have been decided by two goals or less with all games being completed by Mid-June. The 14U Boys Championship League I is a prime example of just how close the games have been, with four games ending in draws, six games decided by one goal, three games two goals, and just two games by more than two goals. Shoreline United SC Arsenal leads the division with a 4-0-0 record with 12 points, and Southeast SC, PSC Dynamo and AC Connecticut all separated by just three points in 2nd through 4th place.

“The EDP offers a more precise pick of teams and clubs for the best level of youth soccer possible BOTH regionally and state wide; while creating the best environment and perfect fit for teams of different abilities to compete in competitive matches creating a fantastic opportunity for the players to excel developmentally.”
— Steven Carneiro, AC Connecticut Youth Director
