EDP Soccer has announced the Best XI from last weekend’s EDP Cup Fall Showcase Boys event. The selections were made based on the performance of the players during the tournament. Congratulations to all players who were selected.
The Best XI from the EDP Cup Fall Showcase Boys are:
Matt was dominant all weekend on the attack and a handful for defenders to deal with. He scored two goals and had one assist, leading the team to a 3-0-0 record in the 2003 Platinum division.
One of the weekend’s most dangerous players was Jack Deletto. His electric play on the attack was very difficult for opponents to contain. In very windy conditions, crosses in the air were futile and the ability to beat players on the dribble became a main asset for all of Dutchmen FC attackers.
Matt played a pivotal role in the LMSC Invictus' Showcase win this past weekend. Matt's feisty energy and willingness to defend ultimately prevented his opponents from scoring goals. Not only did he stand out defensively, his extreme fitness levels allowed him to join the attack, create overloads and attacking chances all weekend long. Matt was able to play 230 out of the 240 minutes available this weekend as the team's left back.
Nolan controls the flow and tempo of the game and is the creative force in the attack. When on the ball, Nolan is very smooth, crafty and creative. You always have to be aware of what he is doing as he can create a goal on his own or set up his teammates. He is committed to The University of Notre Dame for the 2023 class.
Xcaret helped the team to a 3-0-0 record and 3 clean sheets to win the 2005 Platinum division. In the first game against BRAUSA he was dynamic going forward and drew a Penalty kick to win the game. Due to injuries with the team, Xcaret played Center mid, right wing and left back. He is a player that can do almost anything and one of the most important players to the team's success.
Owen scored three goals and added two assists leading his team to two wins. His ability to find the back of the net and set up teammates was on full display as he gave defenders trouble all weekend long.
Marcos, a new addition to the team this Fall is a true #9. He not only knows where the goal is at all times, but he also links the build-up play brilliantly. With three goals scored and a number of chances created for others this weekend, it was a great individual performance from him.
Whether playing as center back or center forward this past weekend, Kerr's top class attitude and constant running was a great example to his teammates and opponents. When in the back he was dominating on the ground and in the air, and when upfront his hold up play and unselfish running to bring others into the game made sure his team had a successful weekend.
Thiago sets the rhythm and tempo for the team with his simple and efficient ball movement combined with his ability to cover ground and break up opposition attacks. Thiago plays tremendously well under pressure and in tight spaces through his technical proficiency and composure. Complimented by combative defensive determination, Thiago is a very complete midfielder that is fun to watch.
Erick was a crucial player in the team over the weekend. Playing in the central midfield Erick was an important part of the spine of the team, winning balls defensively and distributing balls offensively. Erick broke down many of the opposition's counter attacks before they could materialize. His work ethic from box to box was extraordinary and tireless. His vision offensively distributing and supporting play was phenomenal.
Gavin showed an unbelievable capability of finishing this weekend. He scored five goals in three matches at the Showcase. Gavin's ability to get on the ball and attack at pace were unmatched this weekend. He was nothing short of dominant in each match.
