College Commitment: Luis Ascencio

FC Sesa 2004 Boys was one of the first teams from Long Island in the 2004 age group to participate in EDP Leagues. The team started out at 11U in EDP's top division in Fall of 2015, and has been a mainstay in the top divisions for their tenure. Heading into their final year, the team has participated in the USYS North Atlantic Conference Premier I division, and was a Semifinalist in the Eastern New York State Cup in 2021. The team has also won several EDP Showcases, most recently the USYS Regional Showcase Managed By EDP NJ Boys 2021. A large part of the team's recent success is left back Luis Ascencio.

Recently Ascencio committed to College of Staten Island to play for Coach John Tardy. Joining FC Sesa in the Winter of 2020, he made an immediate impact with the team. His ability to defend 1v1 on the flanks has helped shut down top players across the state, and his ability to attack has added another dimension to the FC Sesa squad. A four-year starter at Baldwin HS, he was named All-Conference last season and has helped the team become one of the best in Nassau County during his senior year. His brother Josue, the goalkeeper for Baldwin HS, will look to follow in Luis' footsteps as he starts in goal during his sophomore season.

On selecting College of Staten Island, Ascencio commented: "There are many reason why I picked CSI, but the main reasons are how the coaching staff made me feel as part of the family from the get-go, as well as the program having the drive to improve and get better every chance it can.”

When speaking about his experience playing with FC Sesa, Ascencio stated: "My experience at FC Sesa has by far been my best experience with a club. I have improved and learned so much with this club. I owe this club everything. I’ve made friendships and memories that are irreplaceable and cannot wait until the upcoming season so we can continue to improve while also winning.”

Coach Josh Zapata had this to say about Ascencio, "Luis is a hard-working and dedicated player that brings so much on both sides of the ball. His 'team first' attitude make him one of the most coachable players that I have worked with. We know he will succeed at the next level.”
