This past weekend, EDP Soccer hosted one of its most popular events of the year, the EDP Fall Classic. With teams from 8U-19U, the event serves multiple purposes and caters to entire clubs. The 15U-19U teams get a chance to compete in high level competition and prepare for upcoming showcases, and 8U-14U teams are able to close out their season in the competitive setting. All games were played at Tuckahoe Turf Fields in Hammonton, NJ.
Despite the significant rainfall during the week leading up to the event, the fields drained well and were ready for Saturday morning. For the third consecutive event, some teams at the event had the chance to play on the brand new Bermuda grass fields.
EDP followed health and safety protocols and continued to use innovative scheduling. The schedule format included back-to-back game times that provided for important social distancing protocols and the ability for tournament operations staff to properly sanitize as needed between groups leaving and entering the facility. EDP Soccer also continued the use of its new field layout for the weekend, which created extra space between fields to ensure teams and spectators have the ability to distance themselves. To limit commingling of participants, all home teams and their supporters were positioned on one side of the field and away teams and their supporters on the other side. In addition, home teams stay on the same field for both of their games as this technique reduces the need for team movement across the facility.
“Although COVID-19 has played a major role in our lives in 2020, often hampering the participation in or execution of scheduled events, the EDP Fall Classic was efficiently and smoothly led. Thanks to the previously determined safety protocols and adherence of all teams to these measures, and outstanding referees, the tournament was organized and ran flawlessly. Thank you to everyone involved and I look forward to upcoming tournaments!”
— Chris Williams, Upper Dublin/Penn Alliance DOC & Owner of YTP Sports
"After a long season, it was nice to be part of a quality tournament that allowed our teams to display all their hard work this season."
