EDP Soccer continued its Return To Play with its second weekend of tournaments this summer. The EDP Cup Spring and Central Jersey Invitational both took place at Tuckahoe Turf Farms in Hammonton, NJ over the weekend. Following strict health and safety protocols, teams played four games throughout the weekend of competition.
Innovative scheduling that included back to back game times also provided for important social distancing protocols and the ability for tournament operations staff to properly sanitize as needed between groups leaving and entering the facility. The EDP Soccer Operations Team and Medical Team monitored the heat index all weekend and water breaks were used to follow the US Soccer Heat Guidelines. EDP Soccer also used a new field layout for the weekend that created more space between fields that ensured teams and spectators had the ability to distance themselves.
“I spent the last two mornings at the Tuckahoe Turf Farms for the EDP Cup Spring 2020 Tournament. Great to see the kids back playing in a safe competitive environment. Protocols meant the teams stayed on opposing sides of the fields which gave the families peace of mind with regards to commingling with spectators from opposing teams. All players and coaching staff had their temperatures taken on entrance to the fields, parking was super convenient and the EDP on-site staff were as helpful as ever. Great way for all of the Wall Soccer Club players to get back to play after a very difficult time.”
— Michael Turtle, Wall SC Director
“I could not have been more impressed with how the EDP has organized their tournaments the past two weekends. The health and safety protocols were absolutely first class. We all as coaches are here to serve one thing, the players, and EDP could not have done a better job to help us get back on the field!”
— Luke Tyler, Deptford Premier FC Director
Looking at each group during the weekend, here are the winners:
In one of the most exciting finals of the day, Lacey Jersey Shore Girls United and Prestige Soccer Training 08 ended regulation 0-0, and went nine rounds of penalty kicks to determine a winner, with Lacey coming out on top.
Dynamite Academy 2007 and Wall Elite Napoli met twice over the weekend, with Wall winning the first battle in the group stage 1-0, however Dynamite Academy got the better of them in the final 1-0 to be named champions of the Red Bracket. In the White Bracket, NJ Fire Blue got the victory over Wall Elite Chelsea in the final.
Coming off a strong performance last week at EDP’s first event of the summer, NJ Fire 06 Black returned with another strong showing, and defeated RUSA FC G06 Black in the final of the Red Bracket to cap off back to back unbeaten weekends.
