“It's always special when you see a player like Briana Ramirez, who has been with our program for many years, have the exposure and development necessary while at our academy to be committed to a great college program and university at NJIT. Brianna is a humble player who continues to push herself to get better. A true team player, Brianna will do whatever is asked of her while being a fierce competitor on the field. We are proud to soon call her an FC Copa Academy alumna as she joins the NJIT Highlanders for the 2020 season." stated Roberto Aguas, Executive Director of Coaching, FC Copa Academy. Briana Ramirez is this week’s featured athlete in the ongoing EDP College Commitment Series.

Jonathan Yazo, Briana's current coach at FC Copa Academy shared: “Briana doesn’t need extra attention. From my experience as a player and coach, sometimes the better players want the attention or can sometimes be the most outspoken ones. Briana just wants to play and produce for her team. She is just very intense, very focused.”

Ramirez is an FC Copa Academy and Manalapan High School forward committed to the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s women team for 2020 and was ranked as one of the top 85 girls soccer juniors in N.J. in 2018 by NJ.com, as well as named to the 2018 Shore Conference Coaches All-Division Class A North team

In 2019, as a senior at Manalapan, Ramirez finished her season with 11 goals and 6 assists, and, in 2018 as junior, she scored 14 goals and 4 assists. Over her entire career at Manalapan, she’s scored a total of 31 goals and 19 assists.

“I met Briana when I became the coach of the current FC Copa Academy 2001/02 NL team,” says Yazo.  "She was one of the players I relied on to help bring the team together. She’s constantly the focus of our attack, even with one or two players on her, she manages to create shots with her right or left foot and is very difficult to knock off the ball. Briana a real threat up top and is a key player in everything we do.”

In regards to Briana's future after high school, her upcoming freshman season at NJIT and beyond, Aguas said, “NJIT is coming off of a terrific year with great staff we are very close to.  We are very proud to have Briana join several other FC Copa Academy graduates who are playing there. We are confident Bri will be a fantastic contributor for her college program and we are excited to see her step up to the next level of soccer and fulfill her dreams."

EDP would like to wish Briana the best of luck at NJIT in her first season as a freshman, as well as for the remainder of her club season this year with the FC Copa Academy. We look forward to seeing Briana continue to progress in her soccer and educational career.
