The New Jersey Youth Soccer Futsal State Cup Managed by EDP is a one-day event for boys and girls aged 9U-19U, spread out over January 18th, 19th, 20th, 25th, and 26th for corresponding age groups and gender bracket. Winners of each age and gender bracket are crowned as state cup champion and the top 2 finishing  teams in each bracket advance directly to the Northeast Regional Futsal Championship, which is played February 15th to 18th in Atlantic City, NJ.

Evan Dabby, NJYS Executive Director says, “This is the second year of the NJYS Futsal State Cup, and we are focused on delivering a quality experience for the participating players and teams. For me, it’s that simple. We want our tournament to rate at the top. To do so, we will continue to listen to our participants and having an experienced partner like EDP, given their immense experience in this space, only makes it easier to be successful for our member clubs and teams.”

Futsal is one of the best developmental soccer experiences  and has helped hone the skills and technical foundations of many all-time greats in soccer, to include Ronaldinho and Cristiano Ronaldo. This indoor game is an excellent complement to outdoor soccer.

Rick Meana, NJYS Director of Coaching explains: “US Soccer recognizes that to compete at the highest level, players need to maintain a high level of comfort with the ball throughout the entire year. As such, Futsal is a part of the Development Academy’s season-periodization and the players’ development curriculum. The game is played in a challenging, fast-paced and tight area, which emphasizes control and precise touches to develop foot skills. While the basic tactical elements and end products are similar to outdoor soccer, Futsal is played on a smaller scale. Therefore, you have to think and play faster, and your passing and shooting have to be much more accurate. These skills can also be applied once a player returns to an outdoor setting.”

In EDP’s continued effort to help grow the sport of soccer, the NJYS Futsal State Cup offers another way to help to keep players active and involved year-round.

Dabby adds, “EDP has been a great partner for NJ Youth Soccer. As one of our member leagues, EDP has been active in promoting programs of mutual benefit, like the NJYS State Cups, Young Olympians program and our annual awards and scholarships. Most important to me, communication and cooperation are always there to enhance our soccer community’s opportunities and experiences.”
