The EDP Winter Classic, part of EDP’s Classic Series and the last EDP tournament for 2019, closed out the year on December 7th to the 8th, with over 200 teams from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and Connecticut competing in brackets for boys and girls 9U-19U.
Bob Branz, coach of the Jersey Knights SC Chargers, summed up the EDP Winter Classic experience: “The whole tournament we had great competition. I have only good things to say and of course, we won a championship. All the teams we played against we’re superb competitors, it was such an awesome way to start and end the season at the same time.”
Throughout the EDP Winter Classic, a total of 1308 goals were scored.
“It was a good weekend and it was great to get the group together, especially for the girls finishing high school. It was a fantastic opportunity where we got to play our system and play in our formations against different teams. This was just a great tournament for us to put all the pieces together. Plus, 4 wins and only one goal against us throughout the weekend is a big accomplishment. I like positives and this weekend had plenty,” commented David Hughes, Coach of Washington United Fever 03.
Highlights from this weekend’s games include:
In the Boys 19U 01/02 Frostbite Falls Bracket, Mainland United SA Union captured 1st place after a 2-0 victory over Swedesboro-Woolwich SWSA Cyclones. And in the Girls 19U 01/02 Ice Cap Bracket, Liverpool FC IA NJ Shore 2002 finished first after 3 games with 9 points, while GPS NJ Central 01/02 came in second place.
A close final wrapped up the Girls 16U 2004 Hailstone Bracket, where Twin County SA Sky Blue 2004 EDP beat Holmdel FC NJX 2004 Spurs as the final scoreline read 1-0. Caps Liverpool 04 captured the Boys 16U 2004 Blizzard Bracket over PSA SDFC Elite ‘04, winning 1-0 as well.
