May 1, 2020

Dear Club Leadership, Coaches, and Team Managers:

EDP Soccer hopes you, your club, and families are well and staying safe.

EDP Tournament Notice: Under the advice of our safety and health partners and in following the directives established by the State of New Jersey, it is with great regret that we have made the tough decision to postpone our Memorial Day Weekend Tournaments due to the continued impacts of COVID-19.

While EDP Soccer realizes this postponement may be a disappointment to participating teams, we also want to remain cautious and sensitive to recommended best practices in mitigating the spread of COVID-19, and, most importantly, protecting the welfare of our clubs, coaches, athletes, and their families.

The EDP Cup Spring and EDP Memorial Day Classic 2020 events will NOT be held on their originally scheduled Memorial Day Weekend dates of May 23, 24 & 25.

EDP Soccer is advising all applied teams that it is moving these events to their backup dates. The following are the new dates and locations:

  • EDP Cup Spring 2020
    • Boys - Hammonton, NJ - Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4
    • Girls - Hammonton, NJ -  Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5
  • EDP Memorial Day Classic 2020
    • Boys - Pittsgrove, NJ - Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5
    • Girls - Bordentown, NJ - U8 thru U11 and U13 thru U14 on Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5  /  U12 and U15 thru U19 on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4

Registration is still open for these events. Please view the latest tournament schedule for all tournament dates and backup dates.

If participating teams have booked hotel accommodations, all reservations will be canceled by Titan Travel. There's no need to contact Titan Travel or hotels as cancellation fees are waived due to the nature of the postponement. New booking information for July will be sent to registered teams once it becomes available.

EDP League Notice: In accordance with guidance from US Youth Soccer and the local state associations within the EDP footprint, EDP is continuing the delay of the start of the EDP League season until at least May 17th.

With that date in mind, you can view a few scheduling options click here, which are being considered based on when it is safe to resume league play. These scheduling options will take into account – and may need to be adjusted -- on a state-by-state basis, based on decisions made by state health and safety authorities/local state association guidelines.

As we have mentioned in previous communications, when league play does resume please rest assured that it – like tournament play - will take place with stringent health and safety standards.

The past few weeks have been difficult for all of us and EDP Soccer understands the hardships caused by this pandemic. However, with the recent federal, state, and local announcements around ‘re-opening’ the country, we are very hopeful for youth soccer’s return in the near future. EDP Soccer appreciates your support, patience and understanding as we all work together to get back on the field—#inittogether.

Stay home, #bendthecurve and we hope to see you at our next event!

APRIL 23, 2020 - EDP SOCCER LEAGUE & TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE UPDATE

April 23, 2020

Dear Club Leadership, Coaches and Team Managers:

As we noted last week in our 2020 Tournament Schedule Update, our return to competitive youth soccer will depend on multiple approvals by health, local and state officials. The same rings true for our return to EDP League play.

As always, our first and highest priority is the health and safety of players, referees, spectators, club officials and event staff. We share your eagerness to return to the field and will be ready to do so when the time comes.

In accordance with US Youth Soccer’s programming and advisory notice, issued on April 15, 2020, EDP Soccer is delaying the start of the league season until at least May 15. With that date in mind, you can CLICK HERE to view a few scheduling options, which are being considered based on when it is safe to resume League play.

You can also see our current tournament schedule by CLICKING HERE.

As part of our Register with Confidence initiative, EDP Soccer is undertaking a comprehensive review of best new health and safety practices, all of which are designed to put safety first and set a new standard of event management. Below is an initial list of protocols we will implement at our upcoming events:

  1. Maintain “social distancing” throughout the venue.
  2. Anyone with symptoms is asked not to attend activities.
  3. All individuals are urged to sanitize their hands before, during and after activities.
  4. Prohibit avoidable contact (i.e. handshakes, “high fives”, etc.).
  5. Remind players and spectators to avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with hands.
  6. Players are not advised to share water bottles, drinks or food.

In the coming days and weeks, EDP Soccer will be working with various health officials to establish additional health and safety protocols for both League and Tournament play.

Your feedback is extremely important and will play a significant role in shaping our leagues and tournaments now more than ever. As we get closer to the return-to-play date, we will distribute a survey to collect your feedback to help us deliver solutions that best fit your needs.

Like most of you, we will be monitoring governmental guidance on a daily basis and look forward to getting onto the fields as soon as we can. In the meantime, please stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Jen Marcella, Executive Director of Leagues, EDP Soccer
Don Rawson, Executive Director of Tournaments and Facilities, EDP Soccer

APRIL 8, 2020 - EDP SOCCER TOURNAMENT UPDATE: REGISTER WITH CONFIDENCE

April 8, 2020

Dear Club Leadership, Coaches and Team Managers:

The “green light” to return to competitive youth soccer depends on approvals from various health organizations, government officials as well as the availability of facilities. As I am sure you are, we are hopeful that with new safety protocols in place, we can return to the soccer fields in the not-too-distant future.

With that in mind and to help you plan for the future, the 2020 EDP Soccer Tournament calendar has been updated. This document includes new and existing tournament dates, as well as backup dates for some events that may yet be further impacted by COVID-19. While more delays are always a possibility, EDP Soccer is doing its best to make sure there are options for teams to play competitive soccer as soon as possible.

With the help of the EDP Leadership Council and in response to hearing from many of our customers, EDP Soccer is also very pleased to announce a plan to allow your team and club to Register with Confidence!

Under the Register with Confidence plan, teams can register for EDP Tournaments (through July 2020) with no upfront registration fees processed until after EDP Soccer knows with certainty that no state or federal restrictions related to COVID-19 will prevent the event from occurring. If EDP Soccer cannot run an event due to COVID-19 restrictions, no payment will be processed.  No refunds or credits will be necessary.

The EDP Soccer staff is ready to assist with registering your team in EDP tournaments so that we will all be ready to go as the new government approvals and safety protocols are announced.  And now, with no down payments and no chance to lose any funds if an event does not occur due to COVID-19 restrictions, you can Register with Confidence.

EDP Soccer remains open and available to answer your questions as you plan to restart your soccer season. For more information/to register regarding Register with Confidence or general questions, please contact your EDP representative, or email tournaments@edpsoccer.com. You can also find more information at the EDP Soccer Tournament website: edpsoccer.com/tournaments.

By now, many of us know close friends and/or family who have suffered from the challenges of this current health crisis. But, we will get through these times as a soccer family and as a soccer community. We are all in it together - #inittogether.

United by Soccer,
Your EDP Soccer Team

APRIL 2, 2020 - EDP SOCCER LEAGUE AND TOURNAMENT UPDATE

April 2, 2020

Dear Club Leadership, Coaches and Team Managers:

We hope you and your families are well and staying healthy. Your health and safety remain our priority and we continue to keep the best interests of our entire soccer community in mind as we explore options to return to the field.

In light of the recent guidelines announced by the federal government, EDP Soccer will suspend ALL League activities through April 30, 2020. This includes: US Youth Soccer Conferences managed by EDP, EDP Spring League Premier and Championship Levels, EDP Futures Spring League and Festivals and EDP Youth Champions Cup.

In the recent announcement cancelling the 2020 National Championship and Regional Championships, US Youth Soccer encouraged local competition: “Our focus should be on those local leagues to bring our communities back together through sport, not distracted by a national tournament,” said Skip Gilbert, USYS CEO. Gilbert added, “2020 must be about coming back together, not just winning.”

In support of US Youth Soccer’s recommendations, EDP Soccer is revising its schedules for ALL league play to extend into late Spring and Summer.

For your reference, here are three potential schedules, all with different start dates, which are being considered at this time.

In response to our member club and team inquiries we’ve received, please view the updated 2020 EDP Soccer Tournament Calendar, which includes new and existing tournament dates, as well as backup dates for any events impacted by COVID-19.

Until our next communication, stay safe.

Steve Shilling

MARCH 26, 2020 - EDP SOCCER AND ITS LEADERSHIP COUNCIL IDENTIFY SOLUTIONS FOR 2020.

Dear Club Leadership, Coaches and Team Managers:

As a follow-up to our League communication from last week, EDP Soccer and the EDP Leadership Council have been working diligently to identify viable solutions for Spring League play. While there are still data points yet to be defined, we have made significant progress to date.

As part of our efforts to identify a working model for league play, which we can utilize when it is safe to do so, EDP Soccer is considering all internal and external parameters. Here are some of the parameters that have been kept in mind as this process has progressed:

As it relates to teams who do NOT play in the US Youth Soccer Conferences managed by EDP (Premier I and Premier II), EDP Soccer is looking at options that would shift the schedules of these divisions back and extend the season into late Spring and Summer. This will provide a larger timeframe within which games may be played, which will allow for a more natural cadence and balance of league, tournament and showcase play.

With regard to teams that compete in the US Youth Soccer Conferences managed by EDP (Premier I and Premier II), EDP Soccer is considering multiple parameters, which will ultimately determine the structure of the league season. Some of these parameters include:

  • Start Date – This will be determined by local health and government officials as well as US Youth Soccer’s determination of when to resume Conference play.
  • End Date – EDP Soccer is working closely with US Youth Soccer at a National, Regional and State level to ensure that all Premier I divisions comply with all rules and regulations of the National Championship Series (Regionals and Nationals) for the 2019/2020 season and National League for the 2020/2021 season. Once the dates have been finalized, EDP will create a league structure that will ensure that all games are played within the given timeframe.
  • Reduced Travel – In an effort to reduce travel, which may be important if mid-week games become necessary, all Premier I teams will be re-bracketed based primarily on geography, as opposed to club-based vs. team-based formats.
    • Note, EDP will attempt to preserve any games that have already been played this season by placing those teams in the same brackets during this re-bracketing process.
  • Reduced Game Load – We anticipate a smaller timeframe within which games will need to be played. So as not to overwhelm teams/players with too many games in too short a timeframe, EDP will reduce the game load on each team.
    • Note, while league play will see a reduced number of fixtures, we will ensure that all teams receive no fewer than the minimum number of games, as required by each State Association.
  • Double-Counting – EDP Soccer recognizes that Tournaments and State Cup are also considerations for teams/clubs. As such, EDP is working internally, regarding tournament play, and with State Associations, regarding State Cup, to ensure that the option of double counting games across multiple competitions is available.
    • For example, as part of our strategy to postpone the EDP US Youth Soccer Conferences Showcase, each team could use this event, on its newly scheduled dates, as an opportunity to not only Showcase their players, but to also play multiple league games.
  • Facilities – We recognize that not all clubs control their own facilities. Accordingly, we will need to ensure that teams/clubs who do NOT have facilities are placed in divisions with teams/clubs who do have facilities, which will provide a venue for games to be played.

As EDP Soccer and the EDP Leadership Council continue to gather information and work towards a final league structure, we will keep you informed. In the meantime, know that we are doing everything in our power to provide a full and meaningful spring soccer experience for our membership.

Until our next communication stay healthy and stay safe. And remember, we are in this together.  #inittogether

MARCH 24, 2020 - EDP SOCCER APRIL SHOWCASES UPDATE

Dear Coaches and Team Managers,

EDP Soccer understands that the impact of COVID-19 is changing our lives, and that its ramifications on our routines and expectations are constantly evolving. Like you, EDP Soccer continues to monitor the situation, and make adjustments in its tournament offerings as information becomes available.

After careful consideration, we have made the decision to suspend all tournament activity through the end of April 2020. Specifically:

  • The EDP Easter Showcase, originally scheduled for April 10 & 11, 2020, has been removed from our scheduled events. For registered teams, we will post a 100% credit for the amounts paid, which can be applied toward a future EDP Soccer event through July 2021. Details on the process and guidelines to use your credit will be supplied shortly and will be accessible on edpsoccer.com/tournament-credit.
  • The EDP US Youth Soccer Conferences Showcases (Girls – April 18 & 19; Boys – April 25 & 26) have been postponedEDP Soccer recognizes the loss of significant showcasing opportunities for players seeking to be recruited for college play. Both teams and college coaches rely on these events. Therefore, our staff is working hard on contingency plans, which would allow these Showcases to be moved to a later date. Recognizing the evolving timeline, we will provide options as soon as they become available. If postponement is not possible for this Spring, your team will receive a 100% credit for all payments received, which can be applied toward a future EDP Soccer event through July 2021.

We are all affected by this pandemic, and appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work through these trying times. EDP Soccer will remain open and available, to answer questions and to work with you to get back to "normal".

For EDP, soccer is second only to your health and safety. That’s why EDP Soccer is working hard for you by doing everything in its power to ensure we can restore our soccer programs quickly and meaningfully when the time is right. EDP Soccer and its Leadership Council are currently preparing and analyzing multiple potential models for resumption of league and Cup play, as well as evaluating facilities and timing for rescheduling tournaments.

EDP Soccer will update you regularly over the coming weeks. Meanwhile, stay safe and follow all the guidelines being issued by local, state and federal folks.

United by Soccer,
The EDP Soccer Team

March 19, 2020 - EDP SOCCER AND ITS LEADERSHIP COUNCIL TEAM UP TO EXPLORE SOLUTIONS FOR 2020

Dear EDP Family,

As we all continue to grapple with the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, we are reminded of the importance of working together to get through these difficult times.

The health and safety of our youth soccer community remains of utmost importance. Consequently, we have postponed our league season, as well as the EDP Spring Classic tournaments, originally scheduled for March.

“We will continue to closely monitor the situation and will adhere to the recommendations and guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as national, state and local public authorities,” said Steve Shilling, CEO, EDP Soccer.

As part of our commitment to youth soccer, we have established an internal team that is working closely with the EDP Leadership Council, led by Chair John Ellinger, which is meeting weekly, to evaluate the evolving COVID-19 situation, as well as develop solutions to resume soccer programming and deliver a meaningful 2020 soccer experience as soon as possible.

The EDP Leadership Council ensures that the voices and perspectives of member clubs are integrated into the process. Conversations with US Youth Soccer and its member State Associations about their respective programming are also being incorporated.

This is a moment in history that transcends sport. While soccer is a significant thread in the fabric of our lives, there remains a bigger picture, which we must not lose sight of.

Stay well and stay safe as we join together to meet today’s challenges.

Yours in Soccer,

Steve Shilling, CEO, EDP Soccer
John Ellinger, Chair, EDP Leadership Council
