EDP is proud to celebrate our Technical Director, John Saunders' participation in the UEFA A Coaching License course with the FAI (Football Association of Ireland). Scheduled to complete the course in the summer of 2017, John commented, “Completing my UEFA A coaching license has been an ambition of mine for a long time.”
This coaching qualification is widely recognized across the soccer industry as one of the most respected and desired qualifications in professional soccer. It is also completed by relatively few coaches each year, with just 18 coaches in John's class.
UEFA A requires a minimum 240 hours of contact time over a period of 21 days. The course will focus on a wide range of topics such as player psychology and performance analysis as well as specific skill building and coaching techniques. This course is an intensive one. John enrolled in September of 2016 and will make a total of five trips to Ireland, each one encompassing a four to five day block of classroom sessions, field sessions and assessments. John’s final assessment will take place this May.
John acknowledges the importance of this course in his development as a coach. “To date, the course has challenged me as a coach in many areas of the game including game analysis, periodization, systems of play and self-reflection. The quality of the other candidates taking the course has also helped me to expand my knowledge and debate many interesting topics with some of the top minds in professional and international soccer. EDP's commitment to coaching education gives me the opportunity to share what I have learned so far with our members clubs and players.”
EDP is excited to continue to support John on this challenging endeavor and we look forward to hearing more from him after his course completion this May.
